Supporting Children with Special Needs in Marie Izmirlian Orphanage
Enhancing children’s access to education, healthcare and rehabilitation services by improving their quality of life and fostering social integration
Deepening its long-term support provided over decades to the Marie Izmirlian Orphanage (MIO), the Izmirlian Foundation & the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding creating a cooperation framework for the implementation of varied new initiatives at MIO.
These initiatives will include enhancing children’s access to healthcare and rehabilitation services by improving their quality of life and fostering social integration through the establishment of a rehabilitation center, an inclusive playground and a crafts center at MIO.
The project will also provide the children at MIO equal access to education through the provision of special transportation capacities, particularly important for those children with physical disabilities.
Minister of Labor & Social Affairs Mesrop Arakelyan commented: “We are committed to joining efforts with the Izmirlian Foundation in improving the quality of life, living conditions and facilitating equal access to education and rehabilitation services for children with special needs at the MIO”.
The Director of MIO highlighted the importance of special transportation means, saying “This project will indeed ensure that access is enabled for all kids with wheelchairs to public schools.”
A total of 103 children residing at the MIO will directly benefit from these enhanced program activities.
