Community Development and Tourism — Izmirlian Foundation projects

Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Community and Tourism Development

The Izmirlian Foundation invests in preserving Armenia’s cultural legacy while unlocking its potential for sustainable community growth and tourism development.

  • Revitalizing Historic Pokr Tagh. The Foundation envisions the revival of Pokr Tagh (Lesser District) in Meghri as a vibrant cultural heritage and tourism hub. Developed in partnership with the World Bank, the Government of Armenia, and the Meghri community, this initiative is expected to benefit approximately 5,000 people through job creation, local enterprise development, and enhanced cultural tourism.
  • Advancing Music Education and Excellence. Around 1,000 students annually at the Spendiaryan Music School benefit from a donated collection of high-quality string and wind instruments, along with a concert-grade grand piano. These resources enable students to refine their talents and compete at national and international levels. Each year, approximately 30 young musicians participate in prestigious competitions, supported by access to professional-grade instruments.
  • Strengthening National Cultural Institutions. A contribution from the Foundation enabled the modernization of the power supply system at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, ensuring uninterrupted performances and supporting the excellence of the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • Improving Rural Infrastructure. In the Lori Region, 1,374 residents in rural communities gained access to reliable drinking water through the construction and upgrading of water systems. This project was implemented in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Armenia, the Urban Foundation for Sustainable Development, and the Armenian Energy Agency Foundation.
  • Empowering Local Entrepreneurship. The Foundation has supported 26 start-ups and small service providers - including tourism ventures, through fellowship programs at Impact Hub. These programs provide mentorship, capacity-building, networking opportunities, and resources to transform ideas into sustainable, impactful businesses.
