WASH and Health in Schools of Tandzut and Aygeshat communities of Armavir province

Summary

The WASH and Health in Schools of Tandzut and Aygeshat Communities project was designed to create safer and healthier learning environments in two rural schools in Armenia’s Armavir Province. Before the intervention, Aygeshat’s 216 pupils had no access to sanitation or handwashing facilities at school, while Tandzut’s 237 pupils and the schools’ staff relied on facilities in poor condition. These shortcomings posed risks to children’s health, dignity, well-being and participation in school life.

523 schoolchildren and staff gained access to an improved hygiene, sanitation and health environment, supported by rehabilitated sanitation and sports facilities. The project also created guidance and practical experience that could help replicate the approach in other rural schools across Armenia.
